Project Spotlight: End-to-end S&OP and Financial Planning for Novo Nordisk Brazil

Business challenge

Operating in a complex and highly regulated environment, leading global healthcare company Novo Nordisk Brazil needed a more integrated way to plan across demand, supply, and finance.

Fragmented data sources and manual reconciliation made it difficult to establish a single planning baseline or align commercial, supply chain, and financial assumptions across the monthly S&OP cycle and annual budget process.

The business required a planning solution that could strengthen forecast governance, support event-based planning, and improve visibility across sell-out, sell-in, inventory, and net sales — while aligning with global reporting standards.

The Zooss solution

Zooss implemented an end-to-end Anaplan S&OP solution to establish a single, connected planning baseline across demand planning, supply planning, and financial forecasting. The solution was fully integrated into Novo Nordisk Brazil’s monthly S&OP cycle and annual budget process, enabling consistent assumptions and alignment across teams.

At the foundation of the solution was a strong, integrated data model. Automated ingestion and harmonisation of sell-out and sell-in data ensured that commercial, supply, and finance teams were planning from the same trusted source of truth.

To improve demand signal quality, Zooss delivered a historical outlier correction process and implemented the “Plus 10” sell-out forecasting engine. Structured governance workflows supported forecast generation, seasonal adjustments, and cross-functional consensus, providing greater transparency and control throughout the planning cycle.

Event-based planning capabilities were introduced to support product launches, cannibalisation effects, and supply or demand disruptions. This allowed planners to model, track, and respond to changes as they occurred across the S&OP cycle.

On the supply side, Zooss built a sell-in replenishment model that calculates requirements based on pharmacy and channel inventory levels, target days-on-hand, and agreed demand consensus. This provided a structured foundation for replenishment planning and supply alignment.

Finance gained access to an integrated net sales forecasting module, directly connected to demand and supply assumptions. BI-ready reporting enabled market share analysis and competitive benchmarking using sell-out data, while integration with global reporting tools ensured alignment with corporate standards and international reporting requirements.

Outcomes

The Anaplan-based S&OP solution established a connected planning foundation across commercial, supply, and finance teams, enabling a single planning baseline for both operational and financial decision-making.

By integrating demand, supply, and financial forecasting within a structured S&OP framework, the solution improved transparency, strengthened cross-functional alignment, and supported consistent assumptions across the business, while enabling visibility aligned to both local and global reporting requirements.

Bruna Kiyota, Business Insights Coordinator at Novo Nordisk, commented: “Anaplan has provided us with a stronger statistical foundation, significantly improving forecast accuracy and agility. Previously, as a BI team, we relied on Excel to project market product curves—a process that required managing multiple disconnected spreadsheets just to reach the analysis and presentation stage. It was time-consuming, and we constantly faced version control and data archiving issues between BI, Supply Chain, and Finance.”

“We’ve saved countless planning hours, minimized human error, and added robustness to our projections. This has streamlined our strategic discussions and enabled true data-driven decision-making. In fact, our Anaplan success case in Brazil is now serving as a benchmark for other global affiliates!”
